Age: U18

Accomplishments: Mattis is currently with the Switzerland squad, hoping to make the cut for the U19 World Cup this year, whilst also already in talks with colleges in America, hoping to secure him on a sports scholarship.  

 

Mattis' Story

Basketball has always been more than just a game to me—it’s my passion, my purpose, and the key to unlocking my future. My dream is to earn a sports scholarship at a top university, develop my game at the highest level, and ultimately compete in the NBA or EuroLeague.

Right now, I’m playing in the National League for Divac at the U18 level and have made it to the final selection for Switzerland’s U19 World Cup squad. I’m also in discussions with Florida State University about a basketball scholarship—an opportunity that could shape my entire future. But reaching this stage has not been easy. The financial demands of elite-level training, travel, and exposure have always been a challenge, making access to key opportunities difficult.

The support of the Swiss Sporting Excellence Trust (SSET) is changing that. It’s giving me the chance to compete on bigger stages, refine my skills against top competition, and gain the exposure needed to take the next step in my career. With this backing, I can focus fully on my development without the constant worry of financial limitations holding me back.

This opportunity means everything to me—not just as an athlete but as someone determined to push boundaries and achieve my full potential. With SSET’s support, I’m one step closer to securing a scholarship, proving myself on the court, and turning my dreams into reality. My goal is clear: to continue my journey through college basketball and reach the highest levels of the sport.

Accomplishments: Elvis scored the winning points for Switzerland, as they secured third place at the U16 European Championships last year. He is now with the U18 & U19 squad, looking forward to the World Championships this summer. 

 

Elvis' Story

Before joining the Swiss Sporting Excellence Trust (SSET), my future felt uncertain. I was stuck in an apprenticeship that wasn’t fulfilling and wasn’t leading me toward a meaningful career. I knew I needed a change, but the path forward wasn’t clear—until SSET gave me an opportunity that transformed my life.

I became the first athlete to receive support from SSET, and the impact has been incredible. With their help, I transitioned into full-time education at International School Zurich North, where I’m now studying A-Levels alongside high-level basketball. Being placed in this environment has been a game-changer. I’m part of a school team filled with other National League players, competing for national championships, traveling abroad, and even taking part in European school competitions. This level of competition is pushing me to new heights, both academically and athletically.

For the first time, I have a clear vision for my future. I’m gaining qualifications that are building the foundation for a scholarship in the U.S., giving me the chance to continue my basketball journey at the highest level. Without SSET’s support, none of this would have been possible. Now, I’m working hard every day to make the most of this opportunity, determined to reach my full potential and take my game as far as it can go.

Accomplishments: Stephanie is ranked number one in Switzerland, holds several national titles, and is one of a select few Swiss athletes on the Olympic Track programme.


Stephanie's Story

I have two interconnected dreams that mean the world to me—attending college in the USA as a student-athlete and providing a better life for my family, particularly my single mother and two siblings.

Growing up in a single-parent household has been both a challenge and a source of inspiration. My mother has dedicated her life to ensuring that my siblings and I have the best opportunities, but the financial burden has been overwhelming. Despite her relentless efforts, she receives no social assistance, making our journey even more challenging.

My dream of attending college in the USA is fueled by the belief that education is the key to a brighter future. As an aspiring athlete, I see this as an opportunity not only to pursue my academic goals but also to represent my institution with pride and determination on the field. However, the financial obstacles are daunting, and without external support, this dream may remain out of reach.

By supporting my journey, SSET is not just investing in my education and athletic career—it is also helping to secure my family's well-being. With the right resources, I can alleviate the financial strain on my mother, giving her the relief she deserves after years of selfless sacrifice. This assistance will not only enable me to attend college but also empower my family to break the cycle of financial struggle.

I am determined to make the most of this opportunity, not just for myself but to make my mother proud. SSET is the catalyst that transforms my dreams into reality and allows me to create a lasting impact on my family's future.
